Any of my friends will agree that I’m not a person who enjoys talking on the phone; But I can talk to my Mom endlessly, and we never run out of things to say. Our topics are a perfect balance of hers and mine.

When my boys were little, our daily conversations provided a lifeline from the chaos of motherhood. I could clean the entire house, fold a basket of laundry, and still be holding her to my ear. Nowadays, our conversations are shorter and less frequent, but they still have a way of putting my chaotic thoughts at ease.

She popped in my head earlier today, and it would have been easy to convince myself I didn’t have time to chat; But I was reminded of a lesson I’ve learned through the people in my life who have lost their Moms: Our Moms are irreplaceable, and it sucks if they’re gone.

It’s a priceless lesson that I’m grateful to have learned second hand. Thanks for the ear today, Mom.
